Questions and answers

Getting started

PrediabetesBasket is a UK educational service designed to help you understand the food choices in your supermarket basket.

You forward your online supermarket receipt or order confirmation and receive straightforward guidance showing what's going well, what may be worth looking at again, and practical ideas you could consider for your next shop.

Simply forward the online supermarket receipt or order confirmation for the shop you want PrediabetesBasket to analyse.

That's it — no photos, scanning or manual food logging. When you create your account, you will be shown your personal PrediabetesBasket receipt address.

Currently supported:

PrediabetesBasket currently works with online supermarket receipts and order confirmations only.

No.

Paper receipts and receipt photos are not currently supported. PrediabetesBasket works with online supermarket receipts and order confirmations from supported supermarkets.

PrediabetesBasket works differently from a traditional barcode food scanner. You do not scan individual products. Instead, you forward an eligible Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda or Ocado online supermarket receipt or order confirmation. PrediabetesBasket analyses the whole shop and provides a Basket Score, red, amber and green feedback, explanations and possible food swaps. It is an educational service, not a medical or diagnostic service.

Understanding your Basket Review

Your Basket Score gives you a simple score out of 100, helping you get a quick sense of your overall shop.

Alongside the score, you’ll see Green, Amber and Red feedback, clear explanations and practical suggestions. It’s there to help you understand your basket and spot areas you may want to change — without judging your choices.

PrediabetesBasket uses simple traffic-light guidance to make your Basket Review easier to understand.

  • Green highlights choices that are helping to build a stronger basket.
  • Amber identifies items that may be worth thinking about.
  • Red highlights items where a different choice, smaller amount or less frequent purchase may be worth considering.

PrediabetesBasket does not label foods as simply “good” or “bad”.

No.

Household products, toiletries and other non-food items are recognised and kept out of your food score. Only relevant food and grocery items are included in the Basket Review.

You can tell PrediabetesBasket about the way you prefer to eat. Preferences can include:

  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Pescatarian
  • Halal
  • Kosher
  • No pork
  • No beef
  • Dairy avoidance
  • Foods you simply don't want suggested

PrediabetesBasket uses those preferences when producing suitable suggestions.

No.

PrediabetesBasket is designed to be positive and encouraging rather than judgemental. The aim is not to create a perfect basket or ban foods you enjoy.

Where appropriate, guidance may suggest a different option, a smaller amount or simply buying something less often.

Free analysis, membership and history

Eligible new users receive one free introductory basket analysis after creating a PrediabetesBasket account and completing the required onboarding — there is no separate free account. It gives you a simpler first look at how PrediabetesBasket works using your own supermarket shopping.

The free version is less detailed than the paid member version. There is no need to subscribe just to see the basic concept.

Paid members receive a much more detailed and personalised Basket Review.

Depending on your basket, this can include:

  • Basket Score
  • Green, Amber and Red guidance
  • What went well
  • Food-by-food guidance
  • Practical swaps
  • Smaller steps
  • What to try next
  • Personalised suggestions based on your preferences
  • Comparison with recent baskets as history becomes available

Paid membership allows up to 3 eligible receipt analyses per week.

PrediabetesBasket uses your latest five analysed receipts as a rolling recent-history reference. This helps your newest Basket Review be considered alongside your recent shopping rather than always being treated like your first basket.

  • With 1 analysed receipt, you receive your personalised Basket Review.
  • With 2–4 analysed receipts, your latest basket can be compared with however many previous baskets are available.
  • Once 5 or more receipts have been analysed, your latest five form the rolling recent-history reference.
One basket is a snapshot. Five baskets begin to tell a story.
